SafariSeven is a safari design company specialising in tailor-made luxury journeys across Southern Africa, East Africa, and the Indian Ocean Islands. We work with a select network of conservation-led lodges and operators, and every journey is designed by a Travel Designer with specific, first-hand expertise in the region concerned.

"The difference between a guide who has spent two decades in one ecosystem and one who has not is the difference between understanding what you are seeing and simply seeing it."

SafariSeven® — On the Value of First-Hand Knowledge
Why We Exist

Built on a Single Conviction

We were founded on a single conviction: that the quality of an African safari depends almost entirely on the quality of decisions made before a traveller arrives. Which ecosystem. Which concession. Which season. Which guide.

These are not interchangeable variables. The difference between a camp positioned on a permanent waterway in the dry season and one that is not is the difference between witnessing elephant and lion at close range and returning with images of distant silhouettes. The difference between a guide who has spent two decades in one ecosystem and one who has not is the difference between understanding what you are seeing and simply seeing it.

"SafariSeven exists to bring that quality of knowledge to bear on every journey we design."

How We Curate

The Willingness to Say No

Our curation process is not a matter of sourcing availability and presenting options. It requires knowing which camps have declined in guiding quality since the last season, which private concessions are producing exceptional wildlife density this year, and which operators have the conservation infrastructure to support the claims they make in their marketing.

It requires the willingness to say no — to operators who do not meet our standards, to itineraries that prioritise logistical convenience over experience depth, and to timings that would compromise what a destination can genuinely offer in a given month. The value of our recommendations rests on the rigour with which we withdraw them.

What Separates an Extraordinary Safari From a Good One

Decisions That Never Appear on Paper

The distinction between a good safari and an exceptional one is rarely visible in the itinerary document. It lies in decisions that never appear on paper.

The specific waterhole position in Hwange that concentrates elephant, lion, and wild dog during October. The flood timing in the Okavango Delta that determines whether a mokoro excursion is a defining experience or a transit through shallow grass. The quality of briefings before a gorilla trek in Bwindi that determine whether a traveller understands what they are witnessing or experiences it as spectacle. The particular stretch of the Luangwa floodplain that a guide has walked for twenty years, whose small signs — a bent stem, a distant alarm call, a change in wind — he reads before they become visible to anyone else.

These decisions belong to guides, to camp management, and to the Travel Designers who know which questions to ask before placing a client in the field.
