How Our Safaris Are Designed

The planning of an exceptional safari in Africa is not primarily a logistical exercise. It is an exercise in knowledge.

How It Works

An Exercise in Knowledge, Not Logistics

Stages Five, from first conversation to departure
Led by A single Travel Designer throughout
Support Active in-destination, for the full journey

The planning of an exceptional safari in Africa is not primarily a logistical exercise. It is an exercise in knowledge — knowing which destination offers what, in which season, under which conditions, and whether the specific combination of camp, guide, and timing is likely to deliver what a particular traveller is seeking.

What follows describes how that knowledge is applied.

"Lodges that change management or show a decline in guiding quality are reviewed. Those that do not maintain our standards are withdrawn from active recommendations, regardless of profile."

SafariSeven® — On Partner Standards
How We Select Our Partners

A Selective Network, Not a Directory

SafariSeven does not maintain a broad directory of African lodges and operators. Our network is selective, and the criteria for inclusion are specific.

We assess: independently verified guiding quality — not guiding philosophy as stated in marketing, but the actual standard of interpretation in the field; demonstrable commitment to conservation that is structural and financially meaningful, not a percentage of revenue ring-fenced for a named project; meaningful community benefit structures that give local populations a direct economic interest in the health of the surrounding ecosystem; private or semi-private access standards that limit vehicle density and preserve the quality of the experience; and the operational capacity to deliver consistently — not only during site visits or the high season.

We assess these criteria through regular first-hand visits, long-standing relationships with camp management, and active monitoring of operational standards between seasons. Lodges that change management or show a decline in guiding quality are reviewed. Those that do not maintain our standards are withdrawn from active recommendations, regardless of profile.

The Journey Design Process

Five Stages, From First Conversation to Departure

From the first conversation to the morning a client departs, a SafariSeven journey passes through five distinct stages.

01
Discovery

Your Travel Designer establishes the essentials: regions under consideration, wildlife priorities, preferred travel rhythm, any logistical constraints, and relevant previous safari experience. Where knowledge gaps exist, this stage includes honest advice about what each destination can and cannot deliver in the period under consideration.

02
Itinerary Architecture

Drawing on first-hand destination knowledge, your Travel Designer assembles a draft structure: which camps, in what sequence, for how long, with what mode of travel between. This is not template selection — it is active decision-making. Each element has implications for pace, for wildlife density, for seasonal conditions, and for the overall coherence of the journey. Most itineraries go through several rounds of refinement.

03
Partner Confirmation

Once a structure is agreed, we confirm availability with our partners, communicate directly with camp management on client preferences and any specific requirements, and arrange logistics — charter flights, ground transfers, and permits where required — through operators we know and trust.

04
Pre-Departure Briefing

Before departure, your Travel Designer conducts a detailed pre-departure conversation: what to expect at each destination, relevant health and safety considerations, packing specifics suited to the ecosystems visited, and the logistical sequence from international arrival to the first camp. This is not a document sent by email. It is a conversation.

05
In-Destination Support

SafariSeven maintains active contact throughout every journey we design. If circumstances change in the field — a weather event, a mechanical fault, an operational issue at a camp, or an unexpected opportunity to extend in a particular ecosystem — your Travel Designer is reachable directly and will coordinate the appropriate response. We have standing relationships with camp management and charter operators across our network, which means we act with speed and authority when it matters.

Frequently Asked

Questions about how we design your safari

How do I start planning a safari with SafariSeven?

The process begins with a conversation. Submit an enquiry through the Plan My Journey page, and a Travel Designer with relevant regional expertise will be in contact within 24 hours. There is no standard intake form or pre-screening process — we begin with a direct exchange about where your interest lies and what you are hoping to experience.

How long does it take to plan a tailor-made safari?

Most journeys require between four and eight weeks of planning from the initial conversation to confirmed departure. Journeys to remote destinations, those requiring charter logistics across multiple countries, or those with complex seasonal timing may require more time. We recommend initiating planning at least three to six months before intended travel dates — not only to secure availability at sought-after camps, but because the planning process itself informs the quality of what you will experience.

What information do I need to provide?

Your Travel Designer will guide this conversation. Useful starting points include: approximate travel duration, regions or wildlife systems of interest, any previous safari experience, preferred accommodation style (tented camp versus lodge, for instance), and any health or mobility considerations relevant to the experiences under discussion. Nothing needs to be finalised before the first conversation.

How do you select the lodges and camps in my itinerary?

Selection is based on first-hand knowledge of each property, current guiding standards, the specific experience it delivers within its ecosystem, and its fit with your priorities and travel style. A camp that is the right choice for one traveller may not be the right choice for another — even within the same destination and the same week. We do not accept commercial incentives that would influence our recommendations.

What happens if something changes during my safari?

SafariSeven maintains active in-destination support throughout every journey we design. If circumstances change — a mechanical fault, a weather event, an operational issue at a camp, or an unexpected opportunity that warrants a schedule adjustment — your Travel Designer is reachable directly and will coordinate the response. Our standing relationships with camp management and charter operators across the network mean we act with speed and authority.
