Pafuri is a small section of the Kruger National Park in the northernmost part of South Africa, wedged between the Limpopo and Luvuvhu Rivers. Flowing from west to east, the Luvuvhu has carved a deep canyon through the rock known as Lanner Gorge, a remarkable geological site and one of the region’s highlights. Due to its remote location, Pafuri offers a more exclusive safari experience compared to other parts of Kruger National Park. It has a relatively small land area because it’s wedged between these two rivers at their confluence downstream from Crook’s Corner tripoint. Officially named the Makuleke Contractual Park but more commonly referred to as the Pafuri Triangle, this region is famous for its birding. The Dry Season (May to September), is generally considered the best time to visit Pafuri. The weather is cooler, and wildlife congregates around water sources, making it easier to spot animals. Pafuri is located in the far northern part of Kruger National Park and is a 7-hour drive from Johannesburg. The most convenient way to reach Pafuri is by one of the daily scheduled flights to Hoedspruit Airport or by private charter directly to Pafuri airstrip.
