South Africa

From the world-class city of Cape Town to the legendary wildlife of the Kruger National Park, South Africa offers an unparalleled blend of landscapes, cultures, and experiences.

Cape Town, the Kruger, and so much more

Bounded by two oceans and five countries, while surrounding the landlocked kingdom of Lesotho, South Africa is a country of exceptional diversity. Landscapes shift from arid desert and sun-drenched savannah to lush vineyards, forested coastlines, and towering mountains, all set within a rich tapestry of cultures and languages.

The vibrant Mother City of Cape Town is the perfect starting point. Nestled between Table Mountain and the Atlantic Ocean, it offers a sophisticated introduction to South African life through its award-winning restaurants, art galleries, museums, and beaches. From here, follow the Garden Route to coastal nature reserves and whale watching havens, or venture into the nearby Cape Winelands, where boutique wine estates, historic towns, and gourmet food await.

To the northeast, the Kruger National Park and its adjoining private reserves like Sabi Sands and Timbavati are among Africa’s top luxury safari destinations. These wildlife-rich areas are ideal for spotting the Big Five and offer a range of high-end lodges that combine exceptional game viewing with impeccable service, perfect for both first-time and seasoned safari-goers.

Beyond the Kruger, KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo provinces offer excellent malaria-free safaris and are especially suited for families or travelers looking for more active adventures, including hiking, canoeing, and cultural encounters. For something completely different, the Kalahari region presents vast open desert landscapes and a chance to see rare species like meerkats, brown hyenas, and cheetahs in complete seclusion.

When to visit South Africa

Thanks to its wide range of climates and regions, South Africa is a true year-round destination.
The cooler, drier months from July to September are best for safari in the Kruger and surrounding reserves, when vegetation is sparse and wildlife gathers around water sources.

Meanwhile, the southern summer months (December to March) are when Cape Town and the Winelands are at their sunniest and most vibrant. If you’re visiting the coast, July to November is prime time for whale watching, and the spring bloom (September to November) turns the Northern Cape into a sea of wildflowers.
