Moremi Game Reserve

Your Moremi Game Reserve Safari Begins Here.

Located in the heart of the world-renowned Okavango Delta, Moremi Game Reserve enjoys one of Botswana’s most beautiful locations, dotted with grasslands, floodplains, and islands. Moremi was proclaimed a reserve in 1963 by the late Chief Moremi III’s wife and the Batawana people and is the oldest protected reserve in the Okavango Delta. Moremi encompasses almost a quarter of the Okavango, an area covering several thousand square kilometers. In this enormous and diverse landscape, you’ll find excellent year-round game viewing. Resident big cats such as lions, cheetahs, and leopards are the main predators along with wild dogs. Black and White Rhino have also been re-introduced to the area, completing the ‘Big Five’. In addition, other wildlife species are particularly abundant, and large herds of game are encountered regularly.

Moremi’s most prized area is arguably Chief’s Island, which used to be Chief Moremi’s private hunting ground and was added to the reserve in 1970. This is where several of Botswana’s most exclusive safari camps can be found in one of the best areas for land and water-based game-viewing experiences. To ensure that the wonders of the Okavango Delta are preserved for future generations, Botswana has established a strict eco-tourism policy that obliges camps and lodges to adhere to sound conservation practices and leave the smallest possible footprint in this pristine wilderness.
