Lower Zambezi National Park

Your Lower Zambezi National Park Safari Begins Here.

The remoteness of this pristine part of Zambia, located along the banks of the Zambezi River, is what draws the more discerning traveler to Lower Zambezi National Park. Founded as recently as 1983, the Lower Zambezi National Park covers an area in excess of 4,000 km² which was formerly the private game reserve of the president of Zambia. The park is still relatively underdeveloped which makes it the perfect antidote to life in the fast lane. The Mighty Zambezi River is an absolute game magnet and in the Lower Zambezi National Park, you will never be far from the river, its channels, and its tributaries, which dominate the landscape. This varied habitat is home to four of the famous Big Five, with only the rhino absent after years of poaching.

Elephants and buffalo are particularly common and frequently cross the river, often stopping to graze on the islands. Along the banks, there are good concentrations of antelope, zebra, and wildebeest slaking their thirst, while the large numbers of wildebeest and buffalo who inhabit the floodplains are followed by leopards, some big prides of Lion as well as several packs of Wild Dog. Wildlife activities are varied but focus predominantly on water-based safaris, which gently meander along the river watching and photographing the animal activities along the river banks. Game drives and bush walks provide land-based activities to ensure a stunning overall wilderness experience. Birding is also very popular – there are over 400 recorded bird species to observe.
