Botswana

From the shimmering waterways of the Okavango Delta to the vast salt pans of Makgadikgadi, Botswana offers some of Africa’s most spectacular luxury safaris.

The Okavango Delta, Central Kalahari & Beyond

Situated in the center of Southern Africa, Botswana would be little more than desert were it not for the life-giving waters of the Okavango River, which flow in from Angola and spill across the Kalahari to form the world’s largest inland delta.

This seasonal flooding transforms the region into a thriving wetland ecosystem—one of the richest wildlife habitats in Africa. Thousands of elephants, buffalos, and antelope species roam freely, while leopards, lions, and African wild dogs patrol the land. Visitors enjoy a unique mix of land- and water-based safaris, including mokoro (dugout canoe) excursions, game drives, and walking safaris.

To the south, the Central Kalahari Game Reserve and the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans offer stark, otherworldly beauty. These ancient desert landscapes are home to unique desert-adapted wildlife and the indigenous San people, whose traditional knowledge brings added depth to the safari experience.

Botswana is celebrated for its pioneering model of low-impact, high-value tourism, focusing on intimate, luxury safari lodges and mobile camps that support conservation efforts and preserve the wilderness experience. Whether you’re staying in an ultra-exclusive lodge or a more adventurous mobile camp, you’ll find an experience deeply rooted in nature and culture.

When to visit Botswana

The best time to visit Botswana is during the dry season from May to October, when water levels in the Okavango Delta are at their peak, and game viewing is at its finest.

The green season, from November to April, brings rain, lush landscapes, and incredible birdlife. This is also the calving season, offering excellent photographic and wildlife viewing opportunities—particularly in the salt pans and Kalahari.
